Requirements

This qualification is for those who have experience at Firestopping duties. There is a choice of units available as the qualification covers a wide range of fire prevention activities which may not be relevant to what you do.

These include:

• Installing Cavity Barriers (Fire Batt)
• Installing Dry Cladding
• Fire Resistant Ceiling Systems / Wall Linings
• Fire Resistant Ductwork Systems
• Fire Resistant Spray Coatings

You will need to demonstrate practical skills in a variety of areas to prove you have the ability to carry out your work safely and to a good standard.

You will also need to show understanding and awareness to prove you have a good level of knowledge in areas of your work and construction related health & safety.

Assessment Process

OSAT (On Site Assessment & Training)

Your assessor will visit you between 2-4 times (in general) to collect evidence relating to the qualification you’re doing. Using methods such as Observation (watching) and Questioning/Discussion they will collect what’s needed to prove your competence at your trade.

A third party reference (Witness Testimony)can be used as another source of evidence stating the work you do on site and that you are capable of working safely.

Videos and recorded discussions are sometimes used as they are a good way of collecting substantial evidence in both practical ability and level of understanding.

Your assessor will work with you to plan the assessments and methods used according to the individual.

Timescales

The timescale between your initial induction for the course and completion varies. However, 3-4 months is a realistic time although it can be longer or even shorter depending on the candidate’s ability and availability.

Price

The cost of a Level 2 NVQ is £795 plus VAT at the prevailing rate. Grant money can be claimed back at completion by companies registered with CITB.
