NWSA Supports Women in Construction

Female Construction Workers on the rise, and they are getting ahead with NWSA!

According to latest figures, more and more women are choosing construction careers with females now accounting for 19.9% of the total workforce.

At NWSA, we firmly believe that anyone, regardless of gender, should be able to access the training they need to progress in their trade.

That’s why we’ve outlined below how we can help you to get ahead in the construction industry with a funded NVQ assessment and what it means to be a learner with NWSA. Plus, hear what our past female construction workers have to say about their learning journeys.

Supporting diverse workforces with construction NVQs for all

Women really are doing it for themselves – the rise in female construction workers sends a clear message that a diverse workforce is the only workforce.

National and regional initiatives such as Innovate UK and Pinkspiration seek to further attract and retain female talent via taster sessions, on-site placements and providing the construction industry with recommendations to encourage gender diversity.

North West Skills Academy is similarly committed to changing the face of the construction sector and has already helped women working in construction across the UK to gain an NVQ in their trade and get CSCS compliant.

As one of the UK’s leading providers of government funded qualifications, NWSA offer some of the most flexible NVQ assessment options for time served workers. From Bricklaying to Passive Fire Protection, Tiling to Plastering and everything in between, NWSA are here to help you progress and gain an NVQ level 2 or level 3, allowing you to apply for the relevant skilled worker CSCS card.

If you are an experienced worker without an NVQ, check out our course catalogue to see how we can help you to get assessed and get ahead.

Dedicated learner support

Being a learner with North West Skills Academy goes beyond access to great quality teaching and assessments.

All NWSA students have access to a dedicated learner support team who are there to help you throughout your learning journey. Our support services cover a range of issues such as career progression, academic support, finances, safeguarding and mental health.

You are never alone when you learn with NWSA, our only aim is to help you succeed.

Case study: female painter and decorator shares her learning experience

But don’t just take our word for it. Painting and Decorating learner, Michelle Yeomans, said of her NWSA experience: “My assessor Wendy was really friendly and made me feel at ease from the start.

“In such a male oriented trade it can be tough, but I know I’m good at what I do and hope that more women will do what I have and offer our talents and effort in construction.’’
